A long time ago my mother and I decided to go trekking to Sarek in northern Sweden, we planned it for a while but when we realized that Kebnekaise isn’t in Sarek we changed the destination to Kebnekaise and hoped no one would notice… we planned everything very well and had some problems getting shoes and so on… but eventually we were ready… so Mom was gonna book the room online when we realized that the place shut down in the middle of the month, i think it was the 15th… it was already the 18th.. so we looked around panicked a bit and decided on Hemavan… it looks like a nice place and they are open… but all the huts around Hemavan did also close a few days ago… so discreetly we changed the destination to Ammarnäs… and now we have a three day trek planned:

Day 1, Ammarnäs vandrarhem to Rävfalls stugan (up on the fell side) 21 km
Day 2, Rävfalls stugan to Vitnjul and back to Rävfalls stugan 16.5 km
Day 3, Rävfalls stugan to Ammarnäs vandrarhem (down in the valley) 17.5 km

After that we should be just about the right amount of dead… We’re leaving on Monday =)

I got my Hanwag Alaska today… The very first impression was that they were a bit on the smaller side but then after trying with a variety of different socks I came to the conclusion that they fit me… Went to try them out at a short trekking path (Tornberget)… Walked about 4 km on mostly rocks and they feel just right…
So now we can go to Kebnekaise =)

I’m having a Tea and plan to go for a walk later on…

Oh yes, I’ve got a job, to make a front for a calendar… I’m not sure what the customer want yet though because it came in a bit backwards… I really should go ahead with making my company, there’s customers already… company or no company.. =)
I need to get some sort of a image from the town thou, a image that is good enough to sell calendars… planning to walk there now and have a look around… maybe try to take some shots later on… in the morning…

Yes I know, I haven’t written anything in a really long time. But there haven’t been anything interesting happening in my life lately and I haven’t been in the mood for this sort of things, now I’m so bored that I might just as well…

So where to start? I wonder where I left you… *peaking*… Aah yes the shoes…

I has been around half the country hunting for shoes. First in this town. The range of shoes that are my size (EU 48) and that I like in this town really sucks it’s close to nothing at all, and I need really good trekking shoes course by feet are quite sensitive and getting sore feet is the worst thing. We then went to Kärkkäinen a huge shopping mall about 100 km north of here, over there we found a pair of Meindl boots that fit my foot pretty well but they were high boots  and I’ve never had any high ones before… it might be good since it’s supporting the foot and surely good for wading, they were quite expensive and I didn’t buy them. I bought a monopod that also works as a walking staff thou, that was a good investment i think… When we came home we found an advertisement for Hanwag Alaska, that is supposedly a very good shoe, from another one of those super-malls this time about 100 km south of here. So the next day we woke up bright and early and went to Tuuri, when we got there the largest shoes they had were just big enough to get my feet in them with force, but walking in them would have been absolutely impossible. So we went to Seinäjoki to three different sport stores that just might have my size, but no luck. When we came back home I ordered the shoe I wanted from the net, from a store called “scandinavian outdoor store” in Åbo, I will get them tomorrow. I just really really hope they are fitting now because it was the biggest size available…

So what else… I’ve been working on starting up a company the last weeks, it will be called [CENSORED] and the main idea is that I will [CENSORED]… I just hope that I will get it to work economically, and there are a lot of forms, trademarks, laws and stuff that I don’t really understand… I think that I will have to attend some kind of a “start your own company” course… It’s either start a own company or go look for a job somewhere… And finding a job in the Media is close to impossible at least something that I want to work with…

I’ve been walking a bit lately and also biking… I haven’t prepared any tracks for this post, but I have one laying on the desktop…

This track was from 10th september, I should have more somewhere… If I find them I’ll upload…

It’s been horribly bad weather lately, lead gray skies, no wind, around 7 degrees and just on the edge of starting to rain… I don’t think I’ve seen the sun or the sky for a week and that is starting to get a bit irritating…

I went off-road to the trekking trail at Larsmo, about 15 km or so north of here… I have a pair of trekking shoes that I bought last year after we came from the fells in Abisko, Sweden and they are a number too big for me. Every time I used those shoes I’ve got chafed feet, but I thought that if I put two pairs of socks I would be able to use them anyway… wrong… I got about 4.5 km on the trail that are either 8 or 13 km depending on how you walk, so I was past the point of no return when first the heel on the right foot started to hurt and then the left one followed… I’ve said it before but now I mean it… I WILL NEVER EVER USE THOSE SHOES AGAIN… period.

I also had an encounter with an elk, it was at a rather overgrown part near a small lake, something run of into the forest like elks do when they get scared, I said aloud Are there elks in this forest? and then something ran with a lot of noise to the other direction… I take that as a yes… =)

Here follows an account of the creatures encountered on my walk this evening:

  • Hare – 2
  • Hedgehog – 1
  • Cat – 1
  • Small rodent (deceased) – 1
  • Human (in car) – 3

Hello

Kela (The Social Insurance Institution of Finland) is being annoying again, they’re really good at that, being annoying I mean. I was planning to go there today to try to figure out why on earth I’m not getting any unemployment allowance, but I was way to tired to go anywhere this morning so I guess I will have to do that tomorrow instead. After snoozing for about two hours I got up and found two letters from them. It was a form that wanted me to clear up why I’ve moved to Finland, like I’m some kind of a refugee or something, the other letter said that I had been living abroad without any social insurance at all, darn lucky I didn’t get sick…

Shame on you, Finnish government…

I happened to stumble upon a YouTube video on Taoistic meditation, it was so inspiring. I really would like to take up meditation again. I was quite in to that in the first half of the 90’s, along with all the new age fluff *smiles*, but it’s way to noisy here and now for that and not only audio-noise. There are so much things I need to get done that are noisy in my head too, I need to get my finance up and running, I need to get my company up and running, I need to get my own place to live and so on… But I’ve been reading a bit and stacking up more to read. I love the internet, it’s so easy to find stuff, if it also would be that easy to find useful stuff… =)

I just had a shower and the coffee I made are finished… It’s a fine day out there, 13 degrees and sunny… I think when I’ve dried up somewhat (when my hair stops dripping) I might take the camera and take off towards the forest, it’s been a while since I did any random documentary photography, and I feel like today might be the day.
I have to try and rotate my circadian rhythm to something more like an industrial worker, I have a meeting at ten in the morning at the employment agency this Wednesday and that is extremely early for me, I normally wake up at about two to four in the afternoon, today I set the clock at 12 and snoozed to two… I guess I could stay up all night and be up already at ten in the morning, but those things doesn’t always work out to the best, especially if I have to pretend to be social and alert…

Can’t think of anything more to write, I’ll be back…

Tonights walk. It was three degrees, a bit chilly but rather uneventful, nothing much to write about really…

This Saturday was Veneziansk (a local celebration of the end of summer), I managed to get some quite alright photos of fireworks, and over an hours worth of the sounds of explosions… Got to use that soon… =)
